Our newly renovated library is a comfortable and vibrant learning space, where reading, research, thinking, imagination and creativity are central to our pupils' personal, social and cultural growth.
It is situated in the very heart of the school. Pupils and staff are welcomed to borrow fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and educational books. Books can be renewed every two weeks.
The stock is constantly updated, and pupils are encouraged to request and reserve books that they would like to read. The library is staff by librarian Mrs Cohen, and supported by a team of student librarians, who apply for this prestigious role and are selected on an annual basis.
We run a 'Book + Chill' club every Monday lunch time, exploring brand new releases from the wonderful Reading Agency.
The library is open to all pupils, Monday to Friday at break, lunch and after school until 4pm.
Every class in Year 7 and 8 have a timetabled literacy lesson in the library once a week, with their English teacher and librarian. Year 9 also have their literacy lesson in the library, once a fortnight. We believe in reading to succeed, so a love of reading for pleasure is a key component of our English Curriculum.
Throughout the year we run reading and writing competitions through 'Young Writers', we advocate the 'Blue Peter' reading badge, and of course we celebrate World Book Day, National Poetry Day, and commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
